good morning america, how are you?*

remembering 2006. new orleans. mardi gras.

7 months after the hurricane i was gutting a house still filled with a family's possessions...destroyed photographs, clothes in the washing machine and food in the refrigerator. While we were emptying the house and knocking down walls the body of a woman was found in a previously unsearched house, next door to where we worked. I had something to say.

when I look around
I think this, this is good enough

And I try to laugh
At whatever life brings

 Cause when I look down
just miss all the good stuff
When I look up
I just trip over things

Opposing the death penalty, under any circumstance

"From this day forward, I no longer shall tinker with the machinery of death. For more than 20 years I have endeavored...to develop...rules that would lend more than the mere appearance of fairness to the death penalty endeavor...Rather than continue to coddle the court's delusion that the desired level of fairness has been achieved...I feel...obligated simply to concede that the death penalty experiment has failed. It is virtually self-evident to me now that no combination of procedural rules or substantive regulations ever can save the death penalty from its inherent constitutional deficiencies..."

Be careful darkness! already what was it touch'd me?
I thought my lover had gone, else darkness and he are

We must always take sides.  Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.

what am i suppose to do, bitch?

A woman asked me for money on the street and when I replied I didn’t have any               (really, i didn’t) she said “well, what am I supposed to do, bitch?”
That is a very good question.  I wish I had the answer.

`Curiouser and curiouser!’ cried Alice (she was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English).
